This is a tray i finished over thanksgiving that i hand dovetailed and i did something i have never done before which is a slat bottom. it came out pretty well and fits the spot where it belongs like a glove. i learned that it is best to think about the bottom of a box/tray before you start as this was an afterthought but came out pretty well.

To get the spacing of the slats i cut the slats 1in in width and the box was 15in long so i divided 14 by 15 and got .93333. then i took some feeler gauges and set them to .067in. it worked out well but if someone has a better idea please tell me as i spent a while trying to figure out the best approach.

Well that is just great .
Nice dovetail boxes and cabriole legs now that is class !
I cut spacers for this layout and divide the distance to get my slat width including the spacer or simply use a divider and work off the lines .
There are many other ways like a ruler, square etc ,whatever works best for you in a particular situation .
