Every year my local woodworker’s guild tries to get the members to make some toys for Toys for Tots. I made 20 this year. The second picture is my dad doing the art work. They are made of glued-up 2×4s and the axles and wheels are purchased from my local Woodcraft.

That’s cool! A worthy cause and a cute project. It’s good to see that you got your Dad involved too! Is it a Humvee?

They are humvees. I suppose it would have been helpful to put that in the title! A few years back the guild tried to get as many of these made as possible. Last year we didn’t get too many made so I tried to get as many as could this year. 20 is a lot when you consider all the sanding and drilling. 12 holes get drilled per toy for wheel wells, axle holes, headlights and taillights. I just hope we have a good turnout this year.

A most worthy cause. Thanks for posting and reminding all of us.

Did you burn the pattern in the sides or paint it on?

This year they were drawn on with a sharpie marker. The last two years they were wood burned on. Thought we’d try to save a little time this year doing so many…

what a great cause, they look brilliant, do you just make Humvee’s or do you make other vehicles too?

Our guild was trying to get everyone involved a few years ago so we agreed on that design. One guy made a bunch of blanks and we had great results. After that, there was only a few of us that kept up the next year. Last year was even worse. I stuck with the humvees all three years. This year we are trying to get more participation. We are doing a contest for unique, yet easy to batch out, toy. I’m working on my toy now. Until it is complete, it is top secret!! I will post it when I get it done.
