So for a variety of reasons I really NEEDED a day in the shop. I’m sure you all know what I mean. So I took a look through the toy projects on Lumberjocks. I figured that I could find something small that I could make using materials from the cut-off bin. Master Sergeant’s tic tac toe set got me thinking and this is what I came up with.
The boards are 3 1/4 inches square; poplar and walnut. The tiles are walnut, around 1/4 inch thick and just under an inch square. Some of the O’s are a little sloppy because I cut all the tiles first then tried to figure out how I was going to make the letters. The X’s were pretty straightforward but I had to think about the O’s. The method I came up with worked pretty well but I needed the tiles to be either a little larger or a little smaller to match the jig I was able to make. Finish is a coat of wipe on poly.
Ideally these would be a small box with the tic tac toe grid for the lid so there would be someplace to store the tiles but like I said I was just having fun in the shop. These will be going to my nieces for Christmas.
