Nativity Story Cross and Tapper

My workshop has been in full swing Christmas gift mode for a while now. My wife told me a few days ago that she needed a cross for a silent auction at church, so I got out Steve Good’s Story Cross design and whipped one out on the scroll saw. I then took a scrap piece and turned a base for it, I set it into the base with my mortising machine and bada bing bada boom it was done. I finished the cross with a pecan stain and gave it a clear coat, the base was waxed on the lathe.

Since I am using my lathe more I needed something to help knock the quick releases when I am changing set ups. I had a square piece of wood that I was using for this task and decided to make it permanent and turn it to fit my hand. I threw a quick coat of wax on it and now have a quick and handy tapper to help me adjust the lathe.
