Log Reindeer for My Sister

My sister is a sucker for Christmas kitsch. She saw one of these at an antique market and decided her brother needed a project.

I had a ton of fun making it and trying to get the proportions somewhat correct. Just walk through the woods for material and use a drill with a spade bit. I used a drawknife to help with the joints. I haven’t glued it yet because I’m going to transport it, although I am VERY tempted to stand it up in the truck bed fully assembled just to see the reaction driving down the road.

This would probably be a great project to make with the kids. They could make the nose, eyes, ears and dress it up. Ho ho ho! (Be careful about putting it out too early. It is deer season.)

I love it! Well done!

I am going to make one and plant it at my cousin’s farm down the road and run…

Jusfine – my brother-in-law used to play a game with his brother where they would place two decorative reindeer – one “ahem” mounted on top of the other – on each other’s lawn in the middle of the night. So, if you wanna make two…

DaveGIx – it’s about 4-feet high I guess. You could sit against the body if you wanted. Some people make little fawn versions too that are about waist high at the head.
