I took part in a PITH on another forum I belong to and this is what I made for the name I was given. Since he was from Texas, I felt it was on natural to send him something showcasing Texas. The pen was turned from mesquite with turquoise inlace and I made an oak flip box with a Texas pin inlay to display it in. And since I am from Louisiana, I sent him some pen blanks from our state tree, Magnolia.

Its always fun to take part in these PITH’s, you never know what you are going to get and you get a chance to connect with some very nice fellow turners.

Very fitting pen for a Texan, I think. Nice box, too. What does PITH stand for? I have never heard of it.

PITH stands for “Pen In The Hat”. Usually, you and a group of people sign up and your names are put in an “electronic” hat. Then the computer selects and pairs your name with someone else, and you exchange pens. This one was done a little different. They took the list of names, and starting at the top, each person made a pen for the name under his. It’s a lot of fun and a good way to see other turners work.

Thanks for the comment, it’s appreciated

Very cool idea. I wasn’t aware of PITH, but learned something. The Texas emblem is very classy. Where do you obtain the emblem? Looks like it is about an inch in diameter. Very nice job.

Nice work, love the box, do you have instructions on how you make it.

Sorry it’s taken so long to respond, but thanks for the comments. I get the emblems from sdtradingco.com, they have a good selection. I don’t really have any instructins but I’ll see what I can come up with. I seen one on the internet and just played around with it until it looked right.
