Mitre Saw Stand

I finally got some real woodworking tools ..Like Grizzly cabinet Saw, a grizzly band saw and a grizzly cyclone dust collector. The stuff arrived in pallets that looked like it was in a truck wreck! The grizzly guys were very apologetic and sent all the replacement parts. Finally after setting everything up, I started on my first project.

The design for the saw stand was originally published in a fine woodworking magazine by Jason Teag. I modified it to my dimensions (except the drawer box which is standard as necessitated by the pre made drawers from Lee valley Tools). I modeled it out in google sketchup and went about chopping wood (err MDF). Took me a couple of weekends to get it all together. But it all worked out.

Once problem that i encountered was that once I made the saw kerfs for the drawer, the MDF panel bowed inward! Had a hell of a time trying to square it!

I am planning to add extension wings to add support to long stock.

hianupam, this looks like a real nice stand. What did you change from the original design as FWW isn’t one of the magazines I get? One thing I want to point out is, that if you had trouble with the MDF after the grooves were cut you’ll have to keep that in mind when you make the extensions as almost all of those I’ve seen put pressure on the side piece for support thus squeezing it closed.

@bullethead, thanks for the correction on the Matthew Teague’s name. I had misplaced the article and didn’t want to put the design out there without acknowledging FWW and what I thought was the original author!
@Dusty56, I found a 5th grader to help he reorient the pictures and learn the meaning of sarcasm!
@belg1960, If I recall correctly, the original article didn’t have any dimensions and was not on a rolling base. I designed the cart to fit my hitachi 12 in mitre saw. I also made sure that I will be able to stick my delta mortiser (when I get it) below the saw. I plan to put in a support brace in the middle of the drawer boxes before I add the wings.

I have the sketchup model if anybody is interested.
