My first serving tray is made from Mahogany and Maple and is approximately 20×11 x 3-1/2 with the sides being 1-1/4 tall and the overall thickness being a 1/2 inch thick. Once again, since I don’t have a band saw yet, this was cut with a jig saw and cleaned up with a belt sander. Both holes were made using a 1-3/4 forstner bit and this tray has been treated with 6 coats of General Finishes High Performance Polyurethane Water Based Top Coat.

That is a beautiful tray and an excellent job.

Great work. Cleaned up with a belt sander? Wow, you are a belt sanding guru.

Thanks! I basically clamp both sides together on my workbench and then ran the belt sander across until it looked the way I wanted it to. I am using a Makita 3×18 belt sander with 120 grit.

Thanks! I have the same colors and size glued up so I can make a second but I think I’m gonna change it up a bit and do some finger joints and make the handle area bigger. I will post it when I am done! :)
