This wall unit is built of solid maple and maple veneer plywood in 2008. I was suppose to give it a pickled stain and clear coat. when I was just about finished the customer said paint it white. It has a coat of glidden latex primer and 2 coats of glidden gloss latex enamel sprayed on it.

This is a well built piece but it bugs me that it has been painted.

I assume you used a quality hard maple. What’s the point of using a fine wood like that if it is going to be painted? Pine would have looked just as nice.

The customer is always right, right? Good looking unit though.

Well the poor old lady is a retired army nurse( Full bird colonel) that’s her in the photo. And I have made several pieces for her and everything had to be painted white. The corner desk that i listed is hers also but it is not made of maple.

very nice,,I just don’t understand why people paint nice wood. I bet the pickel would have looked great. I’d like to try that sometime.

She may sure be a nice old lady and a good customer but making you paint that wood white is an awful sin. If god is a woodworker – of which I’m sure – she’ll burn in hell :-) At least a couple days.

Nice unit!

I have to agree on 2 points.. oh why oh why do people paint wood that just screams to be lightly stained and clear coated.. and the 2nd point, yes the customer is always right.

and yes, it is a wonderful looking piece.

I agree with Richgreer. I do scroll saw and did a triple butterfly wall hanging that I sold at a craft show, and as the people walked away one said to the other “what color are you going to paint it”. I stepped over took it out of hands and gave back the money.

Have your say...
