A year after making the Bicentennial Plaque, our minister mentioned, wouldn’t it be nice to have another plaque to give balance to the front of the sanctuary. Shortly after that I found out he was about to retire. I thought something like this would be a nice gift to the church as a remembrance of him.
I completed the carving just in time for presentation at his last Sunday service.
The model for this carving was ”Sallman’s the Head of Christ.”

I looked at the image first and was so impressed – what a beautiful creation. And then I read the story…. a beautiful gift, indeed. I bet there were a lot of tears shed that day.
Wonderful..

Dick, is this displayed in the church, or did your former pastor take it with him?

Oh, as usual, Dick, very well executed. Thanks for showing us this.

Thank you,
It’s still at the church, it has his name engraved on the brass plate. I have to get asome better images of this, it was taken with my old camera. The flash washes out the shadows that make a relief carving.

I am sure minister was pleased Dick and the wood is beautiful – I have a friend that loves to make crosses. He will love seeing what you did with the cross and the image.

Beautiful set of wall hangings. I have seen banners in church’s before, but this is a whole new concept of how to apply woodworking skills to wall art. Very nice.
