This was my first attempt at very basic intarsia. I’ve seen this same design by others on lumberjocks, but I thought it would be a good first project. The dark portion is aged barnwood that my wife’s dad supplied me. I just had a couple of pieces that have since been used. The light part is just some scrap I had lying around…not really sure what species, but I’m sure something from Lowe’s.

Congrats for jumping in! That was my first intarsia attempt as well:

Have to setup my shop better so I’ll be tied up in doing that for the next few months, but can’t wait to get back into more intarsia projects. Keep us updated with your progression as well.

Yeah JFK…yours was the one I was referring to when I mentioned that I had saw it on Lumberjocks before. I thought it was cool how the same design could be interepreted into two totally different ways. I actually built it around 2 years ago, but I’ve just joined Lumberjocks and I’m trying to ‘catch up’ by putting all my projects up. I love how this site makes you strive to do your best so you can impress the other woodworkers and grab some comments…it’s really fun.

BTW this has been my only intarsia project. I’ve done several segmentations as Christmas presents, but I haven’t really focused on woodworking for a while. I’m finally getting some more equipment and I’ll be focusing in on the hobby.
