Project Information

I won a blue ribbon today at the DACS - Fine Arts Fair. That's Delaware Association of Christian Schools. They had a fair today that had Fine Arts and also Music.

I entered my project in Woodworking Grade 5-6. The requirements were that I had to do everything myself. My father could setup the tools but I had to operate them. I still have all ten fingers.

I had to do a drawing of what I was going to create with measurements. How I happened to come up with the idea etc. All joints were mortise and tenon. The top was screwed on with 4 - figure 8 clips.

All entries were judged and were assigned points as the judges desired. You were not in competition with anyone else, it was just Points that matched certain criteria.

My entry won within the highest award range - Professional - Blue Ribbon.

This was the same table that my father used as door prizes at the Mason Dixon Woodworkers Christmas Dinner

Here are the creation pictures:

Cutting the leg blanks

Jointing the edges on the leg blank.

Planing them to thickness.

Cutting the legs on the bandsaw.

Marking the leg placement.

Cutting the mortises on the legs.

Cutting the shoulders on the aprons and table top.

Gluing up the base.

Sanding the top.

hand sanding the edges and relieving the corners.

In the house with a plant on it.

Congratulations, Dave. This is a really nice piece. It is wonderful that you have taken up a hobby like this at your age. It sure beats sitting in front on the tv with a Wii all day.

I am looking forward to seeing some more of your work.

Congratulations Dave!!

Consider yourself real lucky to have a Dad that shares his woodworking talent with you.

I remember when I was young, & puttering around in the basement with my Dad, only without power tools.

We didn't get to touch a power tool in school, until the 9th grade.

Keep up the good work. Someday you may be able to out do your Dad. LOL

Fine job, but one thing… SAFETY, SAFETY,SAFETY. Try to remember the glasses. All the talent in the world means nothing if you lose and eye.

Looking forward to seeing more
