Here’s another walnut buffet I did several years ago. Again this is a bleached finish with dye stains ans glazes.

This was a fun piece to build, a lot of head scratching went on this one.

Sorry, these are old scanned photo’s so the quality isn’t very good.

Les,

It really looks like you need a primer in cutting straight lines. I don’t think that there is a single one in the entire piece.

Seriously, this is a wonderful project. The wood is very nicely matched and all the curves and edge profiles make this an outstanding piece of furniture.

Very nicely done (as usual, of course).

Do you happen to remember how the piece was finished?

This buffet is absolutely beautiful. The curve doors and drawer are outstanding. And walnut, great choice of wood.

Great piece! Which method did you use for the curved pieces?

I’m with Steve, “Wow!”. That’s an amazing piece of craftsmanship. It’s really a pleasure to see your work, and know that stuff like that is still being made. Wonderful!

Very nice – you are way out front on finishing – I can’t imagine the time required to prep and the patience taken to finish such a complicated piece. I hope it is in your own home.

As usaul….....perfect.

Curious as to why you dont use the Blum Tandem motion drawer guides. With such an exceptional piece it deserves the best of the best.

Another absolutely beautiful piece! At first, I couldn’t figure out what the brass object was on the right inside of the first drawer picture. Then, I realized that it is a knob so you can lift out the silverware carrier, nice touch. Obviously, I’m not used to such nice furniture.

As an aspiring craftsman, I have questions. Do you design these pieces? Where do the inspirations come from? How did you create the tambour looking door panels? Were these carved from solid stock or built from individual pieces?

And, I’m curious about why the walnut is bleached and then dyed/stained.

Sorry for all of the questions. Your work pushes my imagination but, leaves me wondering how and why?

After looking at the pictures again, it looks like the door panels are made from individual pieces. Are they coopered and edge-glued or, is the assembly even more complicated?

Absolutely wonderful piece – the curved doors are fantastic. Is the top marble, or is that some fantastic finish?

Well geez you guys make it sound like I’m magic or something, but I’m not. I don’t consider what I do magical, I just get the jobs and I figure out a way to make it. But thanks very much for all your comments, it means a lot to me. I’m just enjoying sharing them with you.

Damian, I promise I’ll get to the curved door thing as soon as I can. Woodjack, Most of the time the designs come from designers, sometimes we design them, this one was from a picture and it was made bigger than the orginal. Bleaching walnut is done to create that aged brown tone, the dye stains and glaze also helps create the aged look, like its been sitting in front of window and its been bleached by the sun. The tambour on the doors is individual pieces. Roman, Bud this was made before blum motion slides existed, we use them all the time now. Gary, Two different process’s were used on this piece. The draw fronts were from solid lumber, bandsawn and trimed on the shaper. The door rails were solid lumber glue ups for thickness and veneered.

Thanks again everyone!
