Hi Woodtex,
This is a nice looking box. Hickory has such nice contrasting colors and grain patterns it is no wonder that you enjoy working with it. The curved sides add a nice detail to the box as well.
Thanks for the post.

I like the joinery on the sides – what do you call that?

Very nice. How is hickory to work with? I have never used it but would love to.

Very nice! I haven’t worked with hickory yet, I think that I’d like to try a bandsawn box someday. Is the lid hinged, or rabbeted?

That is really a nice looking box. I like the joinery and the curved sides. Which came first?

That wood is gorgeous. I really like the way you selected the contrasting pieces. Nice overall shape and design.

Very nice job on the box and the wood is outstanding. I haven’t tried hickory but now I might just have to find me a piece.

thanks for all the kind words. i don’t know what the joinery is called but it’s a version of a box from finewoodworking.com. the lid is rabbeted- i’m too cheap to buy hinges :) hickory is a very dense wood and i’ve heard it dulls tools but i find it easy to work with. i’ve made a couple of other boxes with just the dark wood and i’ll post them when i can.
thanks again,
tex
