This is a commissioned piece made for my brother’s friend. He wanted something small for a friend and had seen another one of these that I made. The original pattern came from a book by Kathy Wise, but I made changes in the color pattern (the frog was supposed to be just one kind of wood). This is third one of these I have made and each time I just can’t leave it well enough alone. I don’t know what the deal is but, each time I have to change it up with the pattern and colors. I do enjoy making this one because the hands and feet are a real challenge to make.
It was made from purpleheart, yellowheart, blood wood, ebony, walnut, cherry. It is about a foot long x four inches across and all the wood started out at an inch thick and took about 25 hours to make. It is finished in a gloss finish to try to achieve a wet look.
Thanks for looking

That’s beyond intarsa, more like sculpture.

I like it. Nice choice of woods and well joined.
The upper foot appears to have lines between the fingers. Are those lines ebony?
Those feet look very delicate,

I have NO idea what the inspiration was, for this project, but I LOVE it !
In the late-90’s, my wife and I were in Costa Rica. We got to SEE some of these lethal little buggers in their native habitat. As is so common in nature … beautiful = deadly. My darling wife is just ONE example of that ;-)
Nicely done !

hi! I too work in the technician of an intarsia, and work is pleasant to me, though the green frog too would look effectively.
