One of the tallest and narrowest pieces I’ve turned so far. It really made me realize I need better hollowing tools.

Thanks Jerry,

It’s real close to 6” tall, 3 1/2” across the top and 4” at it’s widest point near the bottom. I tried to maintain 1/4” or less on the wall thickness, but it got a little tough near the bottom. Sanded to 400 grit and finished with tung oil.

Nice love the wood. Unusal for oak.

Well, I showed this to another woodturner tonight and he doesn’t think it’s oak, so I’m at a loss at to what kind of wood it actually is.

Now it’s officially “mystery wood”, a piece I picked up when loggers cut some local acreage.

Beautiful piece. I am about to start cranking up the lathe with my cheap tools. I think I will sharpen them a bit first. But that is beautiful.
