Post & Rail + Gate

I have decided to build a post & rail style fence around the property gate and replace the gate.
The post & rail fence was originally erected by people that wanted to keep cattle in. They used the available material, timber, and did not pay a lot of attention to the esthetic side of the fence. The end result was bulky fence.
Nowadays, people build post & rail fences as a feature. Apparently, with the time, people developed all sort of rules and standards for post & rail fencing. For example, most fences were built from railway sleeper off cuts (8” long, ~8’ wide) for the rail and they all had the bark; round side. For the posts there were two concepts; all posts are round or just corner posts are round and the rest are made of the same off cuts with all the round sides facing the same direction.

I don’t have the railway sleeper off cuts so I used logs/ In order to try being efficient on log consumption I cut a few logs to two rails and two posts (see diagram) and a few slabs to complete the required amount of rails.
The gate is made of a few branches and metal wire

Very nice, and a wonderful piece of land you’ve got there.

Looks light enough to be referred to as a ‘woman’s gate’, ie, she can open it while you drive through! Nice style! RH
