I am actually really excited how this turned out considering. I didn’t have a lot of tools at the time I built this and the fact that I could do it in my garage was fun.

I built this out of Cherry MDF and with a solid face frame. The drawer is full extension. I did a lot of dados with a router I had just gotten. The rest was done with a table saw and hand saws. It wasn’t until I was done that I got a chop saw that would have made many of the cuts much easier.

The wife found this in a catalog, but wanted a drawer in it. Furthermore we wanted it to be something that could be variable to home decor as we weren’t sure how our house would eventually end up. The idea is that my wife would have some cloth baskets to slide in each port. She wanted this to store child toys.

Very clean. Does cherry MDF darken with age?

Hi Don,

Yes, not as much, but it does darken. When I was working in the cabinet shop the owner’s parents wanted cherry. We used MDF Cherry veneer and within a year it had all was darker.

Nice cabinet and welcome to Lumberjocks.
