I built this segmented vase and gave it to my wife for Christmas two years ago. It was my first attempt at a segmented vase using staves and a feature ring. It is made of Mahogany, Maple and Walnut.

I had no idea how much trigonometry and geometry would be required for planning and cutting the pieces. It took me days to calculate, lengths, widths and angles. Like taking high school trig and geometry all over again. Thanks for looking.

That is absolutely stunning. I am sure you’re wife was thrilled to get it. Is there a reference you can site that provides some advice on creating such a wonderful piece?

Very nice looking segmented vase. The feature ring is very intriguing, as is the neck of this piece. Stave vessels always seem to look good to me, but the shape, fit and finish on this one is very good.
Well done my friend, and welcome to lumberjocks.

That looks great. It is really a beautiful piece. BTW, there’s no need to work hard calculating things when you can get Turbocad Deluxe for $129.95. It is not a toy but a sophisticated cad program. I use it in my machine shop and also make templates for our knife grinding everyday. It runs our cnc router with the small program that runs the router. All you have to do is load a DXF drawing file the cnc router will do the rest. You can make great prints with it and it’s easy to learn. Complicated calculations are easy and there are no mistakes. I get nothing for recommending it. It’s just a great program that is useful for woodworkers and other craftsmen.
