Hi everyone,
This is pencil box and display box that will be given as a going away present to a fellow co worker.
It is made of curly maple with walnut stays. I got a bit carried away with the round over bit but then again who likes sharp corners? I even rounded the bottom so as to make it seem to ” float” above the table.
Since the presentation of a gift is at times as important as the gift I built a display box to go with it. I cheated on the inlay by simply filling in the groves with colored wood filler and sanding smooth. I’d never tried that before and figured it might be worth a try ..seems to have worked pretty well.
Anyway I gave the pencil box a light staining with minwax pecan ..a few coats of poly. The display simply got several coats of poly.. everything is then given a going over with paste-wax and polished..This doesn’t really add anything more than a wonderful smell that everyone associates with furniture.
Thanks for looking.
Ray
