I love crown, it is juch a joy to put up! Crown is my friend!...This is 5.25 popular crown molding, and to think that you get to put up a hardwood, even if it is popular, and it gets painted! Painted hardwood crown should be a sin! but everone does it!...In case if you are reading this and have never put up hardwood crown, there is no flex in it!...I did this work about three years ago, those beatiful doors you see were done by the old man, my father! On all the jobs that I have worked on the young guys, like myself, get to fight with the over head work.

“Man that’s like putting a log on the wall” – Chris (talking about putting 8.25” popular crown up)

Hi Jeremy,

I agree with you. There are lots of clients and LJs who like the look of painted wood but for me, personally, I don’t paint unless I have no other options. Crown, and to a larger extent wainscoting, are simply not used enough in houses today. I firmly believe that you simply cannot put too much wood on the walls, floors and ceiling of houses.

To relate a personal story, when I finished laying hardwood in the living room of our current house I wanted to do something a little different. I doubled up on the base (5.25”) and decided to put up a matching three piece crown. I put 5 .25” base on the ceiling and wall and then put up crown. Handling 16’ lengths of 5.25” base and crown is a job (as I ma sure you know). I appreciate the effort that you pros put into this since, for me, this was a one time project but you all have to do this every day.

Thanks for the post. By the way I like the doors as well.
