Time is approaching for the snow to fly. I designed this gated system for my woodstove to keep the little one from grabbing it. It is made entirely of wood. I picked up the balusters from one of the local antique dealers in town. Lucky, he had a little over thirty which was exactly what i needed with 2 to spare. The rest of the gate is made of of Hemlock for the handrail (Menards) while the framing is composed of red oak. It took me a day to complete without painting. Most of the work was the preparation such as sizing the balusters, creating the rails with groves and multiple pocket holes to hold it together. It is breaks down to three large subsections and held together by six screws. It is simple to remove and easily accessible to clean the woodstove.

Now I can enjoy the warmth of the fire without the worry of my son scorching himself.

Thanks!

Nice solution to a serious problem – have to protect the little guys/gals. Well done and nice job of recycling the balusters.
