this is a bar I did for a customer. The soffit above is in t&g cherry as well. The top is also cherry although it is cherry mdf core 3/4” which I personally like mdf core much better as it is always straight and the veneer seams to be thicker….I’m interested to hear your thoughts. The entire project was stained in a deep mahogany stain from Sherwin Williams.

Very Very nice looking bar.It is so rich looking in that dark red color!! The nice thing about MDF too is that is stable in changing humidity. It definitely has it place in woodworking. The customer must be very pleased with that project. I’ll have a Manhattan!!!!!!!...............Jim

Beautiful work, how well does the MDF core take stain verses solid wood? Also what finish did you use for the top?

I find that the mdf takes the stain just a little darker than the hardwood. I handle this by sanding the mdg down just one more level. you cant be too agressive because you can polish it out and then you get the reverse effect. This particular top only received 3 coats of poly. Thanks for the compliments
