This project was the beginning of my woodworking. I had the house, now I needed some furniture. I was using a TV dinner stand for a bedside table, so thought I’d start there. I found the plans for the bedside table somewhere online. Can’t even remember where. It has a solid maple top and cherry drawer front. The sides are cabinet grade maple plywood. Legs are solid maple, but I didn’t have any 6/4 so I glued up 4/4.
The bed was done about a year later. It is the first piece I built of my own design. Legs were done from solid 8/4 cherry and the rails are each made from single 5/4 boards. Had to build a sled for the planer and use alot of shims to get them straight. I was just happy to not be seeping on a mattress on the floor anymore! :)
The second bedside table I built after the bed (and after the girlfriend moved in). It is a match to the first one. It was at this point that I realized I don’t really enjoy building the same thing twice. But it did go a lot quicker than the first.
