Ebonized Ash Bookcase

Sorry for the poor pics, it was hard to capture this in a good light. It’s made from solid ash usinf dados, half laps and Miller dowels (I love these things). Shelves are adjustable. Face frame is a glued on, no biscuits or anything.

I have not added the back yet, but it will be a black 1/4 ply.

Finish was tricky, I got the recipe from a fellow on Woodnet so here goes:

2 coats of speedball india ink
1 or 2 coats of zissner shellac
2 coats of Waterlox original
2 coats of 50/50 waterlox original/satin

Rubbed hard with brown paper sack after dried.

This is a nice piece. The finish, while dark, still lets the wood grain show. It did come out well.

Thanks for sharing.
