Old-School Cardinal Carving

Project by Mark A. DeCou posted 1006 days ago 646 views 0 times favorited 4 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Seeing Dick’s Viking reminded of a project I did this past Fall. I carved the old Cardinal logo for the St. Louis Cardinals, a professional baseball team. This bird was carved in stone in the old stadium. With the demolition of the old stadium, the Cardinal stone was moved and given a new home at the new stadium.

The wood is walnut, with the bat painted with gold leaf paint. The size is approximately 10”x10” (not sure what that is in metric for the boys downunder). The second photo is the actual carved stone on the new stadium.

Thanks,
Mark DeCou

that is wonderful – and a piece of history as well.

Great detail and the gold bat is bonus.

I like it Mark, I thought you said once, you wished that you could carve. You sure learned how in record time.

Marc, that is a very nice piece. My nephew is a pitcher with the Baltimore Orioles. I’d love to be able to do something similar for him.

Oh, 10” x 10” = 254mm x 254mm
