These night stands are a match to the dresser I posted a few month ago. Although these night stands were a fair amount of work they are designed in such a way that very few special tools are needed. Really the only specialized tools were the dove tail jig and doweling jig. I actually built a horizontal boring machine for the dowel joints but a doweling jig could be used just as well.
I was thinking about having professional plans drawn and making them available for a small price. Not to make money but to pay for having them drawn. Even with a “good friend discount” they cost quite a bit… although I know for a fact this friend will do a great job. If you are interested in plans for the dresser or night stands let me know. If I get enough interest it will reduce the price.
I got the quarter sawn from Jack Murdock in Rolesville NC and was pleased with is price and quality.

As much as I like the work you did on the night stands, I also glad that you had added pics of the build.
I am one of those ” How did they do that” kinda guy. I would like to see others do the same on their post.
Hint, Hint.

I agree, I should have taken a few more pictures during construction. I failed to show where the side panels have an 1/8-deep dado to accept the shelves or separators. I also cut a flat area on the side panel corners and secured each shelf with 4 – 1 1/2 inch screw. Both the dado and the screws are concealed by the tapered corner posts. The screws add incredible strength because of their angle.

Thanks… I looked forever for the hardware and found 2 sites that were reasonable… most sites were very high. This site is where i bought the pulls.

but later I found this one… I’m not sure they are the same but they look the same.

For one buck I’d take a chance… some sites were like $10 each!

Thanks to a little nudge from americancanuck I have started using Sketchup. Here’s my first drawing… almost as proud of the drawing as the nightstand itself!
Have your say...
