Couldn’t find a good, affordable router table that worked for me, so I built my own. Base is made of red oak for added stability, the top is a laminated piece of MDF with some red oak edging. Topped it off with a Woodpecker PRL lift. Fun project, great table.

Really nice table.

I especially like the location of the router. I have an Incra fence but my table is barely big enough to use it. Yours would work nice.

Looks good to me. I have a PRL which is great. Now you just need the Incra fence and you’re set.

This table is great. I like the color choice too. Are you going to put an Incra on it?

I you decide the lift doesn’t work for you, just send it over to me. Looks great!

This is really nice table. It looks like it has more work space than one’s you could buy and you spent far fewer $$ on the table too. Let me think about this…... less money and more table… This one is a no-brainer.

Good job. With the $$ you saved on the table you can now justify the Incra fence. After all you need a first class fence to go with a first class table (I am pretty free with your money aren’t I?).

Thanks for the post.

Nice job on the table! What are the dimensions? Am I correct that your frame is built with mortise & tenon joinery?

Gosh I sure would love to put an Incra fence on that baby and if Scott Bryan is buying I’m happy to accept ;)

Possibly someday I’ll get around to that, but for the time being it’s a nice beefy MDF fence I sink the bits into then back-off a bit. Dust collection is a small challenge but often not very problematic.

I went with the green formic b/c it gave a very good visual off-set from any wood I’ll ever be working with.

The frame is indeed built with mortise and tenon joinery and the panels are small 1/4” recessed into grooves.

The top is 45 1/2” by 27 1/2”
The base is 33” high by 38 7/8” by 22”

The rails are different thicknesses 4” of the top, 3” for the middle and 2” for the bottom. I’m toying with putting it on casters so I can wheel it around easily but I doubt I’ll do that. It’s got a good home in the shop and only occasionally needs to move.

Who sells the Woodpecker lift. Did you use Norm’s router table as a model? Nice table, and when I get my shop finished, it’s something I’ll be looking to build.

No I didn’t use Norm’s table as a model. I was exposed to a very similar table that Rand Richards used at Red Rocks Fine woodworking program and I really liked the added table space for larger pieces. I felt like a lot of the models out there didn’t offer the surface area I wanted.

Woodpecker PRL can be bought directly from their site:

I actually got mine along with the Porter Cable router in a package deal from Big Leroy’s Tool Shack on eBay. The combo was a better deal then buying them individually. I purchased mine well over a year ago and can’t recall exactly what I paid.

Have your say...
