A few years ago, I had a flood (I did not leave the bath running—honest!). Some of the downstairs floor needed replacing. I salvaged the boards and used them to create a bookcase in a spare bedroom that I was converting into an office.

Not, a very exciting piece of work, but it does prove the value of never throwing any wood away. All of the shelves bar the centre one are adjustable. I made a simple jig out of a piece of scrap ply to space the holes evenly.

I also used some of these floorboards to build a TV stand for my step-daughter. The sides are frame and panel construction, the panels and back are from 6ml mahogany veneered mdf. The shelves and top are half inch ply. A simple enough project, but nice to find a use for those pieces of scrap wood.

Gareth,

This is a nice re-use of materials. My wife constantly berates me about the “litter” and cutoffs in my shop. Your project is an excellent example of why LumberJocks don’t throw out cutoffs and other “scraps”. These are simply pieces of wood patiently waiting for a project.

By the way these are nice pieces of furniture.

Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the compliment Scott. Yes we do get grief about the clutter, don’t we?

I have a long way to go to catch up with so many of the guys on here. The quality of workmanship is outsranding.

Gareth, Welcome to Lumber Jocks. Both of the projects look real good. Great way to be able to recycle some of the older wood.
Look forward to seeing more.

I love the substantial, rustic look of your shelves. They have a retro 1970s feeling, they would look good with my Sansui audio equipment on them. Inspiring to me, thanks!

Great reclamation, and some substantial furniture.
