Hi people,

After I posted here a Lignum Vitae mortar a couple of days ago, a fellow woodworker send me a PM asking me to post here this piece… I have posted it in others forums…so, some of you may probably have seen it… but almost sure others don’t. It is Lignum Vitae decorated with others 9 very dense and rare woods from the Caribbean. It is 63” tall and 25” wide; made of solid genuine lignum vitae and the weight of the piece is 97 pounds. It took me over 1,300 hours to complete and two and a half years of part-time work. The finish is Danish Oil and dark brown wax.
As you will probably see, it has some Islamic and Baroque influence… especially Bargueño style decoration (to see some Spanish Bargeños examples, click this link: ).

BTW, not all my woodworking is like this piece… but sometimes it is fun to make something really different and challenging.

Thanks for looking and any comment would be appreciate.

That is something to be proud of,the patience it must have taken to complete without hurrying…awesome.

As a Bahamian, Lignum Vitae is very near and dear to my heart… This is a beautiful way of honouring the “king” of woods. I salute you!
