Someone else’s post today reminded me of something I did about 3 years ago.
I bought a used Honda Civic and all it came with were those ugly wide head metal keys.
So, i figured I’d carve a nice one. I went to my local Rockler store and picked up a strip of 1/8” Walnut and some Gorilla glue. I spent quite a bit of time cutting and shaping the metal head so it would fit into the carving and yet still supply a secure connection to the key chain.
At the time I didn’t have any carving tools so I used a dremel to carve the H.
It has held up remarkably well considering what keys go through.
The attached pictures were taken today since I can’t find any of the original pictures “if I took any”
Sadly that car probably won’t make it much past this winter as the transmission is just about done for and the car is only worth about $600.
I wanted to make one of these for my other cars but none of them work. My Chevy has Ears on the ignition that prevents a nice sized head and my wife’s car has a chip in the key which I don’t want to mess with.
