If you’re gonna have cats… I saw variations of this on You Tube and put together this plan. We have two cats and getting the litter boxes “outside” literally meant that we could reclaim a room for a guest bedroom and my wife’s craft room. The screened floor knocks the litter off their feet before coming back in. That and the front roof line has 1.5” high venting across the front to keep the heat down and drafts the smells out.

We used to have 2 cats and the litter box was in the laundry room. I had planed on building an outdoor litter shead kind of like yours but the cats became fatily ill. : ( :( So I have to put this project off untill we are able to get more cats. I like the screan on the bottom, great idea.

What kind of sealant do you use for the access hole? does it seal as they come back in or go out?

What a good idea. I don’t much care for cats in the house. Glad my ex never saw anything like this or we would of had a house cat.

Dan M- Yes, that Boxer is our Karina (Amazing dogs.) sgtq- that is just a Home Depot purchased pet door. It swings in or out but stays closed when not used; about $20. Sorry to hear that jarheadtech- we had three cats but lost one this past January.

Brilliant idea. They are lucky kitties. I see they can enjoy some safe ‘outdoor’ time as well.

Great idea, always the one thing I did not like about cats was the litter box. Nice solution.
