Simple mirror to go with the vanity I made for my inlaws… Nothing special. I made this several months ago.

Did you finish both sides? I am always concerned about how much moisture is absorbed in the bathroom environment if all the sides are not sealed.

Mark, I always try to get at least one coat of finish over everything (I put multiple coats on what you will see & or touch, of course).

Have you ever used a shellac in this kind of really damp environment? There shouldn’t be much physical wear and tear and minimal exposure to alcohol so I’m wondering if shellac would work here?

I used amber shellac as a base coat. I am not sure if it would hold up against the moisture as a topcoat. I used Minwax as a top coat for the vanity, and probably the mirror. I have since had all sorts of issues with Minwax Poly and am done using it. It’s not holding up on the vanity, and I had issues with it curing for the kitchen I am working on. I have been using General Finishes’ Arm-R-Seal, and am happy with the results.
