This box was made for my father as a gift some 10 years ago. It’s lined with Western Red Cedar.My mom uses it to store knitting needles now.

Gorgeous book-matching with the veneer. Not many people would take the time and care to veneer the bottom with birds-eye. These kinds of detail are what will set your work apart from the rest. Nicely done.

Here’s what I did. The bottom is a solid piece of Birdseye. I started with a 4/4 slab 33 inches long, and 5 inches wide. I re-sawed for a 1/2 finish, and i used the tail off piece to make the bottom. Joined, edge glued, and sanded to thickness. Technically, the bottom is laid up on the cedar lining (V – word) as is the top panel (all pieces are 1/8 thick), but the entire piece (box) is made from one (SOLID) piece of lumber.

That is a beautiful box. I love your selection of wood.
