My Granddaughter came to me the other day needing to build a cage for her new gecko!

She brought some “found” plexiglass and a bunch of ideas, hoping I had enough wood and hardware.

After reviewing her ideas and available materials this is what we came up with.

The base is 3/4” AC ply with a shellac finish and the top is made from cedar with 1/2” ply blocks to reinforce

the corners and 1/4” hardware cloth. The sides are 1/8” plexiglass and are screwed to 1” corner blocks and to

a rabbit in the base.

I think that it is appropriate and important that she receives credit for the design and use of materials.

I did help her with a bit of engineering and I made the dangerous (for her) cuts and helped a little with

The gecko is very happy with it’s new home! The only thing left is a good lamp to keep him warm…..........

I think she has her eye on my articulated arm bench lamp!

Looks cozy to me. I’m sure they will be happy, the geko in and her watching ;-)

Gecko or Geico? Couldn’t resist that! The things we do for our grandchildren.

Have your say...
