Another chip case i made for a customer . The wood on the carcuse is canary wood and cocobolo (front and back cocobolo )(sides a mixture of cocobolo between canary wood) . The lid is curly maple . The tray and inside coves are made of curly maple veneer. This case holds up to 1300 pro clay pokerchips

Looks great Jim. Curious on how you made the coves. (i.e. what size router bit, jig, etc.)

Great. I’ve got an idea that I’d like to make something like this box for my boss for Christmas this year. If mine comes out as nice as your’s I might just be able to keep my job!! ;- )

Great looking box – your wood combination and finish is really nice.

I like the combination of woods. They compliment each other nicely.

Thanks for the post.

Would you be so kind as to provide the manufacturer (and/or retailer) of the “1 5/8 core box bit” used in this project? My students are building “poker boxes” and we have been searching for a 1-5/8” DIA or 40mm round nose or core box router bit for creating the chip slots. Thank you.

Jimboe: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Obviously, Google has not hit all the MLCS web pages, at least for the 1-5/8 DIA core box bits; I had not gotten around to searching with any of the others engines. Bottom line, your information has saved me a boatload of time; I have already placed the order.

Our students can already create poker chip holders using a 1-5/8 spur-type Fostner bit with some drill-thru designs (e.g., Chip Tray) but we wanted a suitable-sized core box/ball nose/round nose bit for use with our school’s AXYZ CNC router. You’d think with the popularity of poker and general interest in woodworking that more manufacturers would have 1-5/8 DIA &/or 40mm DIA bits for creating these sorts of projects. Well, at least one manufacture does and one vendor sell them so I’m a much happier happy guy today. Again, thank you.
