Nice bowl, good grain and color. You should say what type of wood it is.

Very nice bowl. I see allot of turnings in ambrosia maple and I tried it once to no avail. The wood was so hard that just shaping the exterior of a vase I was trying to turn resulted in having to stop about three times just to sharpen my gouges. I quit before I started hollowing out the inside as I had allot more time in turning the exterior than I have ever had in a turning. What is the secret to turning these? the stock I was using was hard maple and I have heard that the ambrosia beetle will infest soft maple too, but have never seen it. Any ambrosia I have seen at the lumber mill is always hard maple. Is lathe speed possibly my mistake? Any ideas you might have would be very appreciated.

Very nice piece of work. Love the ambrosia figure in it.
