I made four copies of the same photo and four frames to match – they’re for immediate family members. I really love the way they turned out.
I wanted to showcase the grain of the wood and love the contrast when you can get a piece of cocobolo that has both heartwood and sapwood. I made 2” borders and chamfered the inner edge. They were sanded with four different sandpapers and finished with three coats of tung oil. I was really surprised to learn that this wood is so dense, so heavy – it was bogging down my saws even!
The finish is as smooth as a baby’s butt.
