I got a lathe after (ahem) decades and made a mushroom to keep the garden gnome company and a lidded box – both were made from cedar. The ‘milk bottle’ was from green maple limb I’ll put some cork on the bottom and use it as a door stop – I hope it doesn’t crack too much.

Try some wax on the milk bottle might help then might not. love the box, I like making small boxs for grand kids.

congrats on your new lathe, looks like your off to a good start on your turnings. I agree with Paplou, try a bit of wax on the milk bottle and hopefully it wont split…..
