I made this from some old hard pine flooring that I recycled and I decided to use it because it just had such character. It had a lot of holes and groves on the bottom side from bugs from many many many years ago (flooring was probably at least 60yrs old). I ended up putting a number of thick layers of poly on it to fill in the holes and such so that the surface is pretty smooth although there are a few dips where the worst of the groves were. I still haven’t managed to get that piano finish worked out but this is the glassiest finish I have managed to get so far on a project.
I may have to retake the pictures cause these don’t really capture the shine and smoothness that I did manage to get on it. The glass is help in with a line of clear shower caulking and a small wooden tab on each corner.
