As promised to my 5 yr old grand daughter, I have completed the chest and will deliver it this week when I go up to Cincinnati on business. The chest is pine, 36”x18”x24” high. Couple of coats of stain and polycrylic. The significance of this chest is it is identical to the very first project I ever did in 1989. Back then, I was in a 3 car garage in Calif with a door on two saw horses for a bench, a jig saw, a bench top table saw, and a router. Today, I have a heated and cooled shop in the back, a bunch of tools and I bet when I look at the 2 chests side by side I won’t be able to tell the difference. Now she has one like her older sister’s.Anyway, thanks for looking.

This is a nice chest. I really like the curved lid. I am glad to see that you have made them both a chest as we can’t show favoritism among our children/grandchildren.

I would love to hear what prompted your move from CA to TN…I am always thinknig we need to get away from this home loan and move to a place with more land (and room for a huge SHOP…

This is a really nice chest, Rick. It is chocked-full of little details and features that make it visually appealing as well as very functional. Excellent work!

Thanks for all the comments again everyone – Dan, my daughter in law asked that I try to match the furniture in the room. I ususally use General Finishes waterbase but, and dont’ ask me why, I told my son to look at some Minwax colors at the big blue box (I never seem to have luck wiith them anymore, the stains seem weak) he chose English Oak. I bought some, tested a piece and through modern technology sent them a picture. Was too light so I took some of the Salem Maple stain I used on my tall case clock and mixed the two together and that seemed to work out fine. I did apply a coat of sanding sealer first. Sorry for the long answer but it just wasn’t easy as a premixed color like it is for me most of the time
