Here is a screen door that I built for a client who had trouble finding one to fit her opening. The opening was 32” by 72”, which definitely was not common. She said she checked with Lowes and Home Depot but the custom built ones she could order were not made in that size, she also said that she had been asking many places in the area but all refused to make one. I made this one out of Fir and modeled it after the “Hampton” model door that Menards sells since that’s the style she liked. The thickness was an 1 1/8”, the width of the styles and rails is 2 1/2”. I did fill in around the panel at the bottom with a simple round over trim. The screen is held in with some staples and a small frame that screws in from the back. This was the first screen door that I have built and found it to be very easy and quick to build. Sorry for the lack of pictures.

Thanks Tim. The client said she wanted to stain it and finish it and she also said he son could cut in the hinges, so it saved me the work of doing that, plus her house was quite a distance away from the shop.

nice work
i have made some over the years
now i rabbet one side for the screen
and have the guys at a glass place
make one of those aluminum screens
with the rubber rope in it
it keeps the staples nails from eating and weakening the wood
over time
and if it gets ripped
they can just take the screen frame to any glass place
and have it re-screened for cheap
then put it back in
