With the Brewers in first place in the National League Central, the baseball fans around here are going nuts … including one that is pretty close to our family. So, I decided to turn him a baseball bat as a way to commemorate the Brew Crew’s winning season..

Since you can’t turn a full-size bat on a stock midi-lathe, I decided to make him something he could use at the office … a pen.

This was a bit of a challenge … getting the proportions right was no small task (it is proportionately correct, modeled after a Rawlings 32” regulation ash bat). It is 7 inches long, 9/16” in diameter at the business end tapering down to 1/4”. The knob is a skosh under 1/2” in diameter. The ballpoint is out of a Bic Roller Ball (the ones you buy in 10-paqcks at WalMart for about $2.00).

Ah, a 20 cent Stick Pen. Nice job Gerry. I made one of these and gave it to a friend. He loved it. I’m sure your friend will too.
