So one of my regular AF customers that orders shields for their swords (they are the Dark Knights) asked if I could incorporate the 2nd picture into the face of the shield I make for them. Well I don’t have a CNC and didn’t feel like hand routing all that, I suggested a glass insert with the picture frosted on the glass. She liked that idea so I proceeded by rough cutting the shield from 1/2” oak plywood. I then used the template I have to get it to final size. I next routed the recess for the glass and backing. I then used the same process to get the picture on the glass that I used when I made the Cadet Squadron shadow box ( ). Finally, the wood part of the shield is stained with Minwax Ebony Stain and finished with 4 coats of Formby’s Tung Oil Finish.

It’s a very nice piece of work.
