If you are looking for a fun project to do with your family, you may want to try carving some ‘Carolling Mice’. These can be power carved or hand carved with a knife. The fun part comes when you involve the whole family in the painting. Once painted you then glue in a leather tail and put them on your favourite shelf during the Christmas season.
I use scraps of basswood or tupelo. The blanks are 2×2x4 inches (pictures 4 and 5). I used mice caricatures from the Wind in the Willows. Note that there are no eyes only large noses and mouths. you can almost hear them singing their Christmas carols.
These pieces have been claimed by my Grandchildren, Quinn and Olivia! Picture 3.

Very nicely done and it looks like the grandchildren love them.
