I liked the look of the last African Blackwood pen I made so much I just had to make another. This time I paired it with a gunmetal slimline hardware kit. The hardest part about making this was probably photographing it, the gunmetal kept wanting to look gold. Aside from that, I’ve been working on making slimline pens that are a bit beefier than the typical straight shot- the rear is the trickiest. I try and make it big enough to be pronounced, but small enough that the clip fits without sticking out in the air. I think I just about have it to where I want to keep it.

Thanks for looking.

Very fine writing instrument!!! I have been wanting to tackle making pens for some time. I bought a press, mandrel, some pen hardware and a couple books to find out my Taiwan made lathe doesn’t have a morse taper on the head stock, only the tail stock. The head stock is only a threaded post so I am limited to the spur center it came with or faceplate turning. I been trying to use that as an excuse to get a new lathe. Hopefully Santa might find room for it in his sleigh this year.

Thanks, Michael. You should check out PSI, they have 2 versions of threaded mandrels:

3/4 x 16tpi
1 x 8tpi

Best of luck! :)

-- Norman - I never never make a mistake, I just change the design.
