I decided to make a small wood mallet. I have a larger one I made 20 some years ago, but I needed one I could use for wooden planes until I find a piece of brass to make a regular plane hammer.

The body is cherry. The handle is ash with white oak highlights.

Finish is BLO.

Cool mallet. I had to do the same thing when I couldn’t find a decent piece of brass. The I saw someone’s mallet made out of an off the shelf plumbob. Good brass and already round and tapered. Don’t get much better than that.
Can’t wait to see your brass mallet. Good work.

Now I see who made the post, Is the handle going to turn to a medium brown?

There is nothing more satisfying than the feel of a tool you made yourself. To me its the best thing to come along since peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and sex. Great mallet. You have some great projects in your profile. Always look forward to seeing the tools you make. Thanks for posting

Sweet, yes it is amazing what a little pice of tree can become.
Nice work.
