These pics were taken about 10 years ago when I was 27 years old. Had never built a playground before and my in-laws at the time wanted a playset for their kids (I married the oldest daughter at 21, but they had 6 other kids younger down to about 4 years old at the time). These are the only pics I have of the unit when it was nearing completion, built mainly out of two-bys with a 4×8 as the main support beam holding the swings up. You can see in the last pic the plastic circular slide pieces piled up waiting to be assembled. Also, not shown but added a few months later was another “wing” out one side of the playground with a large tire swing and cargo rope climbing net. Similar construction to that – I should have used a smaller tire though. I used a 22.5-inch big rig tire thinking several kids could ride it at once, but it proved too heavy. Anyways, not bad for someone who never built a playground before!

I’ll bet it has been well used over the past 10 years. How well has it held up?

Other than the standard fading of the pressure treated lumber no damage to the wood structure at all. The tire swing, however, since it was so heavy the chain holding it up wears through the metal yoke in the supporting beam over time from swinging back and forth. Like I said, if I did it again, normal size tire.
