This is a desk I designed and built from red oak. I saw a desk on the internet similar to this, and based my design on that picture.

I used a lot of the techniques that I learned from the dresser making this. The file cabinet uses stopped dadoes, tongue and groove, and dovetailing in the drawers and trim. The bookshelf also uses stopped dadoes and dovetailing in the trim. I soaked the front trim for the desktop in hot water so I could get the bend in it without it breaking.

I also made a separate shelf (shown in the picture with the chair). It sits on the ledge of the room and I’m using it for my cable modem and access point.

This was a much larger project than I realized. The desk was really a cabinet, bookshelf, and desktop when you consider the design of it.

Nice work and use of your materials. I like how you mixed the drawers between wood slide frames and Accuride where you needed it.
