Ever since I built this shop I wanted SOME kind of sign above the door – something that said “This is my Wood Shop!”
What better sign than the image I use to brand all my work?
It only took a couple of years – to get started, that is. ;-)
In truth, I did this over the course of a weekend a couple of weeks ago.
Background is some VERY figured cherry – insect damage, knots and minor cracks standing proud.
Foreground and edge banding is black walnut, cut on the scroll saw at a thickness of around a half of an inch.
Finish is a coat of danish oil followed up by two coats of spar varnish – although it never gets rained on, I thought “why take chances?”
Entire piece measures around 18 inches high by 20 inches wide.
It looks really nice and has already raised a few questions from visitors, etc…. :-)

Very nice Bob,
never even on both sides with I use it. Looks pretty cool though.
I’ll have to save my pennies for a brand.
I had a rubber stamp made for my work. It’s the same thing,

Nice.
That really gives the entrance a focus.
I would think that it makes you proud to pass beneath it. It would to me.

I agree, all shops should have a sign, and “Here’s Your Sign”. Great job.
Kinda ironic, the first line of your post for your branding iron “Finally! My woodbrand with my custom logo arrived today – right before the big east coast storm!”. And here we are again, “right before the big east coast storm”.

Rance,
I was thinking the same thing when I was taking the pictures this morning with Irene brewing in the background – it’s raining pretty heavily now, but no winds yet. Yet.
That was a Snow storm if I remember correctly…...... :-)

A quality sign. Lets the customer know what they can expect, Bob.
